  • Cold Air Intake And Stage 1 Racing Chip

I recently bought a cold air intake and a Stage one Racing chip. I have been told that i can get about 12 more HP from the intake and 20-40 more hp from the racing chip. Just wondering.... Any of you guys have this done? and if so how much more HP did you all get? Im Moding a 95 3.4

i'd say 5, personally i dont think chips do anything, from wut ive seen. My frriend used to have a 98ish S10 V6, hes like "yep got my cold air intake, flomasters and chip tht he paid $200 for. I beat him in my 97 stock 2.2 liter crappy *** cavalier!!! Hes like man ur cars pretty fast (all serious)im like hahaha

yeah well that is a truck. the weight difference plays a big role. Also, those are tiny 6s anyway. You won't know for sure unless you dyno it, but i would say not more than 10-15..but you can still tell people it has 52 more horsepower if you really want..they said they could do that after all ;)

There is no way a 2.2 liter Cav could beat a camaro. I have a 2.4 liter cav with about 50 more horsepower stock and it couldnt even come close to beating my car

Never say never, a lof things come into play

and to the starter of this thread you prolly live really close to me, I am in the Franklin/Oak Creek area

Chips DO HELP! not much, but the do advance timing, shift firmness etc. Either way its like 5-10 hp tops, but they do serve a purpose, (I am not talking about the $5.00 chips off of ebay, I am talking Jet Chips.)

Anyways, yea send me and email or something, could always use another set of hands for the motor swap coming up next week!

Re: Cold Air Intake And Stage 1 Racing Chip

your so called stage 1 racing chip wouldn't be from eBay would it? If it is, then you're most likely looking at teh stupid IAT resistor mod thingy. Most people see no gains form that, actually, it makes their car runs worse. As for the intake, a good one would probably give you 5hp on a stock car. Since you icnrease the incoming airflow, you need to increase the outgoing airflow, aka your exhaust. The intake alone will help some, but you'll see a better gain from an intake and exhaust.

Yeah, I didn't even know they made chip for our cars? I don't see how that would work because we have a programmable PCM? Mabye I'm just old fashioned...

Jet makes a chip that actually plugs into the wiring harness and DOES work.

but you are better off spending a little more and getting HP tuners.

Re: Cold Air Intake And Stage 1 Racing Chip

Where can I find the HPtuners kit and whats the difference (in price and power)? U say it would be even more beneficial with a higher flowing exhaust... would a Z28 take off (with dual outs of course) outflow a stock v6 muffler? (Maybe this should be a diff thread, sorry i'm new to the posting/forum thing)

From what i find on the HPtuners site (yea sorry i didnt look before i spoke) its only for the newer 4th gens, not the 3.4's. Still looking for info on the V8 muffler's gains. Does JET's stage 2 kit require premium fuel?

Sry missed the S10 part but still those must be extremely slow I mean for a cheap nice little z24 cav that i own (well it was nice till i beat the **** out of it) they have quick acceleration nothing like the camaro but i thinks its a great car I use it on rainy days it keeps my car in the garage
