what i am saying is that i'm not looking at numbers, i'm goin cheapo. I never do this on any other ride of mine, but this is my cheap firebird to drive to school and have fun. Maybe the other lids will help out more, but the difference, as you stated, isn't even enough for me to tell. I use my 80 malibu to drag, if i wanted to drag this car, then i would be thanking you right now.
Personally, I'd rather be safe than sorry. For a few bucks, you can get stronger connecting hose (as Scorp suggested) rather than take the chance that what you have will tear and particles (or possibly worse) will enter your motor and cause some internal damage. Usually "going cheapo" is not a smart thing to do when dealing with your car's motor. With a bend like that, I could see that foil material tearing on the underside near the throttle body from the stress. The heat under the hood would also weaken it. If you're keeping it, you should check it often.

that's exactly what happened when I used the dryer ducting. It happened twice before I changed it to a different type of hose.
see, i totally agree with being safe. And i have checked on it everyday. I plan on checking on it, but since its not stretched out, and even after driving to school it doesn't get hot, i think it will be ok. You may be right, it might F*** up, and if so i'll buy something else. What you don't understand is that I was looking for something more durable and safer, this whole thread started because i did it real quick when i had free time and posted some pics. I have been looking to make it safer since i put it on. You all act like this is a permanent intake.

i don't know. maybe you're using a different kind of ducting?
the stuff I got was from Home Depot. It was clearly marked "Dryer Ducting". It had an aluminum foil-type appearance, and the material was thin.
by contrast, most intake ducting is either a rubber tube or a synthetic woven fabric material. This increases the strength greatly.
I have two tubes going to below the front bumper also and they leed air into the underside of the box
i thought of doing that through the fog lights, i had a cold air intake on my malibu that went through the fog light opening, but well i don't feel like messing with all that in the front bumper. Nice setup

it took an afternoon because i had to heat and carefully flatten the rounded outlet just at the bottom to clear the rad shroud and the black hose i had was too long so i had to cut it shorter a couple of times to make it fit better, i noticed gains right away especially when i stomp on it
