Does anyone know how much a air a stock car runs through the throttle body at wide open throttle right up to the rev limiter, I know the TB is capable of flowing quite a bit of air with a forced induction but I'm looking for stock numbers, from idle all the way up to redline would REALLY be appreciated.
I'm trying to settle an argument/bet with a friend.
thanks

If all else fails use a bigger hammer!
A 3.8 liter 4 stroke engine pumps 1.9 liters of air through the intake with each rev. At 900 rpm (idle) that's 28.5 liters (0.9 cubic feet) of air per second. That's 54 CFM.
At redline (5600 rpm), that number goes up to 177.3 liters (6.26 cubic feet) of air per second. That's 375.7 CFM.
I agree with that. I worked it out a while ago at about 402.6 CFM. I don't have my calculations kicking around, just that final number on a yellow sticky by my desk. I think I used 6000 RPM.
Now Playing: \'99 Pewter Firebird, stock, bone stock, and nothing but stock, so help me God!
Comming attractions: K&N Filter, Lid Mod, Intake Bellows Smooth Pipe Mod.
I dream about: Forced Induction (TC or SC) or NOX (or both!)
28.5 liters is 1.006 ft³/s not 0.9 so you get 60.36 CFM at idle.
But the red line numbers look right.
It's all theoretical though... that's how much air the engine is capable of moving at 100% volumetric efficiency which depends on whether the intake and heads are capable of flowing at that rate.
