i was driving on a street and all of a sudden my exhaust got louder........i was curious but didn't knew what it was................came home and this is what I saw........... :(
whats my cheapest solution?...i am thinking about just ditching the muffler and keep it the way it is which cat+ipipe.......what u guys think? ..........
Wow! That is the craziest thing I have ever seen. The pipe just breaking straight in half, though it is very plausible due to the amount of rust that is covering it, I'm sure it is rather brittle.
As far as your cheapest solution, I would agree with your thought on just removing the muffler the rest of the way and sticking with cat+ipipe until you can save enough money to replace your entire catback, because I'm sure the rest of the pipe is covered in rust as well and it would just be wise to go ahead and start saving to upgrade it to something new and not rusted :)
Good luck and I hope you are able to save up money better than I, or else it will be next year before you have enough to buy a new one :P Ah, the joys of having a wife that loves to spend money, and the rest going to diapers and food for your baby.
Well it is mostly likely to be illegal not to have a muffler at all as it woudl be to not have a cat. Though some people have went without muffler and/or cats. I myself dont ahve a cat. Since that piping is all rusted i'd get a new catback system adn put on your car.
Damn Jersey Salt-Air will do it all the time!
I highly recommend that you DON'T keep it like that. First, it's illegal and definately a citation waiting to happen...especially with NJ Troopers! Second, you may get lightheaded at red lights, which can become very dangerous for you and your passengers.
For a cheap solution, you can buy a sleeve from any auto parts store and fit it over the broken pipe, then use hose clamps to hold it on. That's extremely ghetto, but the cheapest alternative. Probably about $10 alltogether.
Just measure the broken pipe and go find a sleeve that is about 1/8" larger.
Get it fixed. Like someone already said: You really don't want to get a ticket for that stuff... on the other hand you also don't want the rest of your exhaust to just fall off...
Looks like a perfect excuse to go get yourself a nice new aftermarket cat-back. :)

oh i hope you didnt lose any of the bearings when that broke,... that could get expensive!
but if u just go to a muffler shop they should probably be able to cut out the bad peice of metal and just weld in a new chunk for like 20 bucks or so.
thanks for the input!............. you see the problem is that i just don't want to spend 300-400 on exhaust right now............. i want to fix it temporarily because i don't know how long i am going to keep this car ..............so, as some of you said to go to a exhaust shop and asked them to weld a piece , i'll try to do that................. btw, my exhaust right now is f*&king loud as hell..........it's not as obnoxious as a cutout but pretty nice rumbly loud ............ it's likeable .............

cops here are not really so bad ...........i used drive around months with my cutout on my previous camaro ........never got any trouble......... i don't understand how i will get lightheaded? .....my windows are up and it's exiting almost toward the muffler area .......... curious to know..........
You'll get lightheaded because of the fumes. They can make their way up into the car through any small crevice, or just rise up next to the car and into the interior when the windows are down. Believe me...I've had bad exhaust systems that I have neglected on my older cars I've owned over the years, and the odor's were not only horrible, but dangerous too.
I've had this happen twice. The first vortex and it snapped in winter of 01. I relaced it in summer of 02. I replaced it with another vortex and it snapped on me driving down interstate in Cincinnatti this past summer. I pulled over and it was dragging my tips so if you want a muffler and tips go up to exit 7 in Cincinnatti and look over hill side and theres a muffler and scratched tips. I still have not replace muffler and its loud also. I've pretty much gotten use to it. I'm going to replace headers back this spring so I'm just waiting to do it all at once.
So my truck is finally getting some work done, after 17 years, Oil pressure sensor went out and it’s located under the lower intake manifold. Have to...
