that sound that ricers get at higher rpms... to me it almost sounds like rattling but i dont know how else to explain it.. sit in your car in neutral and rev it high (if you have an after market exhaust), it will most likely rasp, and you will know when it does

Sorry to kinda hijack but I have a flowmaster 2.5 inch system with the resonator, and I am planning on doing headers and a high flow cat. Will removing the resonator with the headers and catincrease the rasp, make it sound better, or should I just leave the resonator for these upgrades?

thats all up to you, it'll be really loud if you get rid of the resonator. Do the headers and hiflow cat, if you like how it sounds then leave it but if you want some more sound out of it then get rid of the resonator.

I just bought a 10 inch long 2.5in pipe from autozone(4$) and 2 exhaust clamps(2$ each). Used a hacksaw to chop the resonator off and clamped the new piece into place. You have to be really careful about measuring it though, if you cut too much off your screwed, and if you don't cut enough off you won't be able to get the new pipe on.

just like camarodom said, just cut the resonator off.. cut it so that the new piece of straight pipe will fit where the resonator used to be. Put the straightpipe on and clamp or weld it

The only place you need to go is an autoparts store (I'm almost positive they have one in California). The pipe i bought was a 12" long i think... and it had 2 female ends. All i had to do was cut off the resonator + about 3 inches of the pipe in front of the resonator. Then I just slipped my new pipe over top of the old pipes and clamped it down.

                        Re: Question about resonators...

it sounded quite a bit deeper and a little louder. It sounds more aggressive and I love it. If you don't end up liking it you can always just put the resonator back in.
