  • SES Light after install.

Hey all, finally registered, been lurking the forums for a long time now :) Got a quick question.

I've got a 1997 Camaro V6, just installed pacesetter headers and Magnaflow catback (very happy with it).

Had a problem though, SES light popped on and stayed on and I just got the parts installed yesterday. Car seems to be running fine. After working going by autozone to get my car scanned. Anyone hear of any problems driving around with the SES light on for long periods of time? :)

Nah, stock cat. I had it done at a shop I've been going to for years and trust their word (somewhat lol). There wasn't any problems with it. I'm sure its a bottleneck, and I'll deal with it later. All the parts were welded and checked for leaks and installed correctly, I double checked after I left the shop.

I leave work in a couple hours, I'll find out then, but I thought it odd that SES light would go on even with stock cat. I know headers usually throw a code too, but everything was welded on and leaks checked for by the exhaust shop. So right now, no clue whats going on.

headers don't throw codes, aftermarket cats do.

Went by autozone, says O2 sensor Bank 2, Sensor 1 low voltage. Isn't that one of the manifold sensors?

check the connection on the 02 sensor, make sure that its screwed in all the way and that the connection is good. on mine, the 02 sensor went out a little after the headers, dont know if the headers had anything to do with it or if it was just its time.

                          Re: SES Light after install.

i just recently installed a set of pacesetter headers and my passenger side header's o2 went out about a week later... then the one right before the cat went out... so im thinking that headers have a little something to do with it but... could just be coincedence. i mean my car does have 209,5XX miles of her.

Yeah I'm going to check that O2 sensor when i get home, its probably loose. and luckily I have only 88k miles on my 1997, and she still runs great :) Definately keeping this car for another 10 years :D

Haha........Good luck with that ............ i don't know if it has been discussed or not but our transmission is the weakest link in our cars ............if you can get the trans rebuilt at a good shop then you can probably keep it for a few years but i highly doubt another 10 years ........... ;) ........
