What do I need to do to shave my air lid on my 2000 camaro? Will I gain any power from this?

    Re: Shaving Air lid

I havent done it yet but im going to. You need a pair of pliers to break the fins off and some sandpaper to make it smooth. you will have a very little gain but u might want to remove your air silencer to (the big black thing behind the lid before the TB)
anyone else who posts here will prob tell u to just do a search

the pieces snap off with the use of pliers... its pretty easy, just take your time and sand it down smooth and wash it before putting it backon. Taking out the silencer with the lid should make it sound better but you won't notice anything.

a connector piece for 3" pipe will fit fine

When I did mine i went for like 5 bucks at home depot and got 2 black rubber couplings. Then I think it was like a 6-7" piece of 3" pvc piping. Washed it all really good and painted the pvc black and washed it again then put one coupling on the TB (pretty easy) and use a big hose clamp to fasten it (the kind that is round and you screw a screw to tighten. Then out the other coupling on the air lid opening (pain in the a$$)(you might have to use something to stretch it out a little at work I used a clamp and opened it inside the coupling and left it for about 20 min) then muscle it on the opening then use another clamp to fasten it. Then measure your pvc and cut (this is where you sand edges a little and then wash it really good). Then just put the pvc inside the TB coupling and then push the airbox lid on the pvc then manipulate it so that it will snap into place. After about a week of it being on there it will conform to the shape that it is in and wont be so hard to open. (you will know what I mean when you try to do this because those rubber coulings are prety tough)

^or just replace the air silencer w/ a connector piece for a 3" pipe...
