  • mig welding exhaust?

    so, i wanted to know if a mig will produce enough penetration for exhaust work? im looking at making a full custom exhaust w/longtube headers. :banana:

    100% yes! I've used a 110v Mig on my exhaust, and it came out great. Although, it was the mig used with GAS, not Flux. Flux welding is messy and not really acurate. If the welder has a CO2/Argon Gas hookup, purchase the tank and use it...you won't regret it!

    Set the feed line at "slow" and practice first. It takes some time to get a nice bead on the metal. And make sure that the exhaust (or any other metal) is cleaned up nice prior to welding. I used a grinder to clean up any paint or dirt that was left on the metal.

      yeah, it has a gas hookup, its a lincoln electric hp135t. im propably going to use a 75% argon 25% co2 gas to do the exhaust...longtubes, here i come :)

        Lincoln makes an awesome 110v Mig. I have a Hobart witch is basically a byproduct of Miller's Mig's, and it costed me $400.

        A good rule-of-thumb to remember is:
        The cleaner the metal is, the stronger the bead will be and it will lay alot nicer.
