  • Borla vs. Flowmaster

Ok, I'm having to replace my old exhaust system (a flowmaster 80 series) because it's rusting to pieces. I've done the research and I've narrowed it down to Borlas and Flowmasters. I've obviously had the flowmaster and know it's limitations and what it sounds like. In looking at Borlas it seems they have better performance but, from the sound clips it sounds like they don't have as deep of a rasp at idle and revving up. Is there anyone out there that has had both and can help me decide? Know also that if you sugguest alternate ideas that my budget is limited since I'm in the process of replacing my speakers inside too. Thanks!

if you're on a limited budget, Borla is NOT an option...doesn't matter what ya get, but even finding Borla's used are still gonna run you one pretty penny

Well if you do have the money for the Borla $800 then i suggest the exhaust system you go with should be as follows... American Thunder Catback 2 1/2 inch($300), a cutout with electric butterfly($200), a catco cat($50),an O2 sim($30) and a set of headers($200) for a grand total of $780. This exhaust system is FAR SUPERIOR to a Borla catback system for vertually the same price!!

Doesn't the Flowmaster have like a million mile warranty? Maybe you can get it replaced for free if you call up flowmaster.

What exactly is the difference in the American Thunder Catback and just the 80 series muffler and pipes? Is that just what they call the whole package?

                Re: Borla vs. Flowmaster

The American Thunder catback comes with a 2.5" pipe, a square box resonator and an 80-series muffler with some nice chrome tailpipes. The resonator is the main difference. I removed mine shortly after installing my catback but it seemed alot raspier. In my opinion the system sounded a bit ricey in the upper-RPM range on my car, stock log-style manifolds and a high-flow cat. I just ordered a dynomax pipe and a summit turbo muffler off summit racing, once I install it I'll give a full review of it and a recommendation if I like it.

My opinion though, if you have the money, get the Borla. Flowmasters sound best on V8s, not my favorite on our V6s though.

mine sounded way better after removing the resonator... i think i was the first on the boards to give it a shot, so i was a guinea pig... but i ended up loving it and recommending it. Everyone else i've talked to about doing it that have done it love it as well

Me either. Isn't the real-estate saying supposed to be something that is impossible. Like, I have a house for sale in Mississippi that sits next to a mountain.
