  • flowmaster with stock ground effects

about 2 months ago I had my flowmaster american thunder exhaust installed at a local exhaust shop. Before I had some issues and replaced my rubber hangers so that my I-pipe would stop hitting my axel (or whatever it was hitting). That fixed it, but my entire exhaust was welded with the assumption of the "hang" of my old rubber hangers. So my new rubber hangers brought my tips closer to my ground effects in the back.

Now, when I'm at low RPM's I hear an annoying "plastic rubbing metal" vibration coming from the back. I'm pretty sure it is my tips getting way too close or touching my ground effects.

Also whenever I shake my tips with my hands there is a decent amount of "play" in my exhaust in the back.

    My questions are:

    1. Should I get a universal bracket welded on to fix this play?

I have heard both "there should be no play" and "there should be some play"

    2. Can I just go to the exhaust shop and have them reweld my muffler pipes so that the tips aren't so close to the ground effects?

    3. Or do both?

Also if anyone has any pics of exhaust with the stock ground effects would be helpful so I can gauge how close the tips should actually come without much vibration.

Thanks in advance and Happy New Years.

BTW I live in Maryland and the car is 2001

there will and should be play. no doubt about it.

I would just have the exhaust reweld to fit. simple, cheap fix.

for pics, check the post in the appearance section started to see exhaust tips and their locations
