  • WTF with factory CATs...

am I the only one? my 1st went out at 35k and was replaced under warranty. Great. GM guy said its not uncommon on our cars.

my car just hit 71k (36k) later... and my cat is clogged to the point my car woudl barely go 60.

What the **** with the ****ty CATs GM? The cat on my 94 went 115k.

Well when the car was my moms the cat went bad but the warranty only lasted 3 years and the she hardly put any miles on it. I think the cat went bad around 33k or so.

I have 207,000 on the original CAT. Seems to be fine. Car still runs like a scalded cat!

I am, however, slowly collecting parts for an exhaust upgrade when it goes. :D

I have 71,000 miles on mine and it seems to be running good. Although I am planning the departure from the Cat the whole way back really soon. Thank god for bonuses!

I have 97k on my original cat, but it may be bad now. I haven't driven it in over 2 years......we will see what all still works on her when I try to turn her over in a few more weeks.

Is there a time when they changed it? My 94 3.4L lasted forever... just this 3.8L

Is there a year they changed CATs or something? like when they did the TB change?

well mine died around the 80k mile mark but I know I hit it more than a few times on obstacles. The driveway at my old place would hit it from time to time due to having just the right spot where the asphalt was broken and rose up to meet my cat. However after putting on the 1LE springs I don't scrape anything under the car. Finally when I did putt it of the car it wasn't clogged or totally broken inside, the honeycomb peices were however loose inside the housing and causing a nast rattle.
