Ive been thinking about a cheap intake for me 3.8. I know a lot of people swear by the SLP kit and all that, but how effective would this be from eBay? I know this has been asked a bunch, but I figure it goes into the fenderwell also, so its not all bad right?
do the free ram air mod and the free whisper lid mod at the most you'll spend $6 on the pvc, i really dont see a major difference from the 1-5 hp from the free mods to the 5-12 hp of the CAI and in order to get near 12 hp from that thing you need to be going 100 mph or more
i bought one of them chrome intakes for ****s and giggles. i was curious about the build quailty and stuff. and performance gains of course.
i dont really think there was any performance gain at all. minimal at best.
the quailty of the kit aint bad but the filter was way too gigantic. it doesnt fit in the hole below the stock airbox. it has to be slipped on from underneath. pretty big pain.

Yeah I figured the filter was garbage, but if I change it out with a K&N would that be a little better.....because I think $230 for a CAI is ridiculous

Intakes don't really help our cars out that much.......gains are minimal if even existant. So go ahead and get the Chrome Intakes one (the full setup that goes into the fenderwell) and just buy a $10 K&N cone afterwards...
It is the first stepping stone to support future mods.
i made a CAI for my maro with about $18 and a trip to Lowe's..
I got a 4" bend, 4" to 3" reducer, a length of 3" piping, a 3" elbow, stuck the filter on at the end in the fenderwell and I can't see how i would be getting any less performance than a much more expensive kit. it took a little creativity, but it worked out nicely and didn't cost me a lot. --i have a '96 also.
