my flowmaster catback just came in and i called the local muffler shop to ask if he can install and weld....he said he could but wanted to know if he had to weld stainless......can anyone answer that for me?

    Re: flowmaster installation

depends on exactly what your doing. the stock exhuast is stainless steel, so if you just got a catback, or a catback and a cat, then he'll have to weld on to the stock exhuast. im not real familiar with flowmaster but i dont think they're stainless steel. the reason he asked is you have to do a different kind of weld with stainless, FWIW.

in a hottrodding article they painted the flowmaster to prevent rusting. My old flowmaster rusted on the welds and where the interior welds were inside the muffler. So it might be stainless, just not the welds

            Re: flowmaster installation

Once I changed to headers, high flow cat, 3" s-pipe, and 3" intermidiate pipe, I had everything welded up. I got home and one tip was about 1" lower and 1" futher out. I took it to a different shop and had them fix it. I would not take it back to the first shop, if they have no more pride in their work than that, I will not use them. The new shop cut one tail pipe and the tip, reset evrything and rewelded. Now it looks great for $15.00. Oh I already had the 2.5" American Thunder Catback.

I do service work so I know what it like to run out of time and have to hit the road.

                  Re: flowmaster installation

I have had the American Thunder exhaust from Flowmaster for 3-4 months now and it sounds great, but I've had some problems with a wierd noise under torque/low rpms ever since it was installed. I used the clamps they gave me, they seem to work great and i can adjust anything to the way i want. Welding just seems to permanent for me.
