  • exhaust loudness...

ok so right now i have a firebird with pretty much straight pipes. its basically a TSP rumbler with no muffler in the middle. its loud...reallllly loud. so im looking into taking it down a notch or two. im looking at puttin a muffler in the I pipe, and im not sure which one. im looking at the hooker aero chamber muffler, hooker max flow, and any flowmaster that would fit in that I pipe. or maybe a dynomax straight thru, but i figured that it would still be loud if i did that. does anyone have any suggestions on this?

with the TSP setup, you're basically limited to bullet style mufflers, which, just by their very nature, are not going to be very effective in reducing the volume

you could setup a muffler after the axle (ie flowmaster 80 series)

i was thinking about doing an after-axle, but i dont really like the sound of any of those mufflers. maybe just a small muffler in the I pipe, or a moroso sprial flow to soften the pitch and get some of that "bite" out of it? im just looking basically to get some of the loudness out, because i really like the exhaust note alot

i'd probably throw in a chambered muffler, like a sweet thunder in there. i think loser did it to his car and it's something i use to consider doing awhile back.

definatly give sweet-thunder's a look. my car is still loud, i cant talk on a phone behind it at idle, but inside i can easly (unless i go wot) i went with the sweet-thunder becuase its 2.5" inside (to keep my low end power) but its a straight though desgin so it still flows good. http://www.sweet-thunder.com/chambered_general.html

do you have a highflow cat? headers? how much are you looking to spend? how's your low-end power? dynomax bullets can be had for around $50

i can still be quite with my car, but im a M5 so that helps. personally i love the tone and its not annoyingly loud. i have a picture comparing the sweet thunder to the dynomax bullet that came with my rumbler.

I just did install on mine. TSP definitely has a nice note but waaay to loud. What I did, I bought cheap muffler and have it installed in the place where stock muffler was. It brings loundness/2 but if you want to have it really quiet (like for a long trip) you can install resistor into the pass tail pipe , like borla does.
