  • exhaust manifold>removal driver side

    hey guys,
i searched around and found a few things but not exactly what i needed to know.i was wondering what size is the nuts on the studs for the manifold? also which bolts need to be removed from the top,and which from the bottom? from the looks of it i don't know how i can remove the darn thing.
will i have to unbolt the y pipe to to get the manifold off?

btw i am removing it because i broke my egr bot off in the manifold and i can't remove the bolt without taking the manifold off anyways.so i got one from lilchubby and i am just gonna put another on it.please help me out guys,i have enough under my belt trying to gt my mr2 spyder's motor back in it.i haven't drove it in over a year.now i have this to deal with to ,sorry to be a whine sack.

you have to drop your exhaust system (the y pipe needs to be completely out of the way) take off the egr tube, then take off the i think its 6 or 8 bolts holding it on, then it drops right out the bottom, dont bother trying to get it out of the top, it doesnt work

thanks man that answered on off my questions about where it comes out from and taking the y pipe off.i know 97rs4life wrote to take off the y pipe but that was also so you could weld in the new one. appreciate it.
does anyone know what size or should i just start feeling around?any more tips? after breaking that egr bolt off in the manifold it's got me scared to fool with the studs on the head.

why not delete the egr and weld the hole shut. thats what i did.

i don't know how to weld (big surprise right lol) but can it be done while in the car?and then i could just put a filter on the egr tube should be good to go....

                    Re: exhaust manifold>removal driver side

okay according to 97rs4life a filter on the pipe is fine,so nothing needed except welding the hole shut.i few people reccomended welding it with high heat silicone and some change but also they said it blew off.so how dangerous is it to do this with the manifold in the car?
did you weld it in the car Tom Rs?

                    thanks man.

                      Re: exhaust manifold>removal driver side

if an experienced welder does it it should be fine in the car, i would not silicone it, and imo putting a filter on the tube isnt even nessicary, because i'm not thinking the egr will even open without the exhaust going into it, and at that it isnt sucking, it takes the force of the exhaust to push it in

I mig welded my exhaust manifold's open-hole shut (didnt use anything except the welder)
You dont need a filter on the intake side. Just make sure its blocked off

n00bs: You dont even have to remove the egr, just unplug it!
