Im a little low on funds right now, what i was planning on doing was just getting a magnaflow muffler and from there dual tips, with everything else stock. Do you think it will still give me sound and preformance? Or should I wait and get the full magnaflow system?

I have the Magnaflow Catback on my 2000 Cam as well. It's a great system. It produces a nice tone when you're gettin' on it, yet it's not unbearably loud, like a Flowmaster can be at times.

I went with Magnaflow and i love it. I've heard flowmasters on a v6 mustang (4.0L) and inside the car is annoying loud, from then on I was kinda turned off from them. The magnaflow isnt really loud, but the tone sounds great, especially around 3000-4000 rpms. oh and ive never been annoyed by the sound inside the car.

The main reason I went with MagnaFlow over FlowMaster, was becasue MagnaFlow is made of all stainless steel, where as FlowMaster is Aluminized steel. I live in NE, so I thought MagnaFlow wouldn't rust up as fast with all the salt. Other than that, I'm pleased with the system, BTW sound is really a matter of opinion, so it's impossible to say that one brand has a "better" sound than the other.

Same. I had a flowmaster before this one for 2 years an it rusted right through the muffler. Also one of the exhaust tips was entirely rusted, ended up spraying painting it black. Reason i bought a Magnaflow, Now ive had it on for 6 months an it still shins right up real nice.

I'd say save up and get the Magnaflow Catback sys. I have the 2.5" on my 98 camaro. Great sound, i love it. Got it off ebay last year. If you end up buying it online, make sure you call them first before you bid/buy it to make sure its the right part and that they have it on stock. Also, try to make a deal, they may give you $50 bucks off or even give you free shipping.

well i have the flow master American thunder cat back (80 series)
I don't think its annoyingly loud.
its kinda loud when your on it and quiet when cruising down the road and im happy with it. it all depend on what YOU want and what YOU can afford everyone has a different opinion you are the one who is going to be hearing it every time you drive the car.

btw this is what the stickies are for:wavey:

YES!!! My buddy had a Flowmaster on a 3.0L Ford and it was annoying loud. The Magnaflow is definitely smooth sounding in the interior.

It really depends on which Flowmaster you get. A 40 series will be extremely loud but the 80 series on my Firebird sounds stock when cruising and has a nice rumble when idleing. It is only slightly louder than stock when running it at WOT. Just do some research and check out the sound clips.

                          Re: Flowmaster or Magnaflow

I have the Flowmaster 80 series, and when I first got it, it was just the muffler, with stock 2.25" piping. Sound-wise it was great, but there was not much of a performance change. After getting the rest of the piping from the cat back, it was definately a noticible change in performance.

One thing to note, I used to love the sound of my flowmaster, but feel like I am getting tired of it now. I probably won't change it until it falls apart. Which leads me to another thing. The flowmaster is definately rusting. It has started at the welds, and I can see rust in other places too.

On that note, I would wait, and save up for the whole magnaflow catback, you might even find a used one on sale here, or on the v8 forums. I would recommend getting the 3", if you are seriously considering modifying to any extent. That's another thing I wish I had done.

I love the sound of flowmaster, but the muffler is going to fall apart one of these days. Magnaflow's stainless steel will last a lot longer, and it affordable. If I have some extra money laying around I will probably switch to a magnaflow 3".

P_C... I could mic up the car and shoot you a video if you want to hear the Magnaflow system.
