I'm picking up a stock Z28 cat back from a 99 camaro with 10k miles on the exhaust, 40 bucks, not a bad deal seeing as how my muffler sounds like theres metal shards flying around inside! anyway, should i worry about different pipe sizes? i assumed it would weld up right, but im not 100%... i did search but i didnt get a clear answer

there will be a pipe size difference from where you hook it into your factory exhaust. about 1/4" or so. Might get it to slip fit and weld like that with little gap -

will flow a little more. will be louder than factory v6 but I'm sure quieter than any aftermarket muffler.Comment

So how did it sound exactly? Was it quiet but rumble a little when you stand by the back. How it did it sound up top? I have been wanting to get one but be putting it off.Comment

rumbled more than stock, just not alot louder. it was noticable, but nothing compared to the rumbler i have now. it didnt rasp any worse than stock honestly, you just noticed it more becuase it was a little louder. it definatly rumbled alot more than stock ( even with the y87 muffler ) when it was stock you could bearly hear it standing in the back, with the z28 you could hear it, but could still talk on a phone behind it. ive heard a 3.8 with a magnaflow and it was quiter than that if that helps any. magnaflows are pretty tame, flowmaster is louder.
2-3 grand revs sounded great. above 4 it rasped like stock.
idle wasnt much louder, noticable but not annoying or distracting.
above 3 grand it was a decent bit louder than stock.

I want the z28 muffler because I run open cutout anyways and really do not like the flowmaster and do not like the noise all the time. I have however did not want stock because I wanted some slight rumble like it was a z28 with factory exhaust. I hope with my setup, it will give me the quiet rumble I want. I love driving my truck because it is quiet :DComment
