okay i have an 01 stock manifolds magnaflow cat 3" back to a dynomax muffler if i install pacesetters and a bigger y pipe do you think the 3" i pipe will be too much should i shrink it down to 2.5 or even 2.75?i don't wanna install the headers and feel like i am getting raped of power from my exhaust being too open..

    Re: quick question

i think everyone is going to have different opinions on this. i'm personally switching back down to 2.5 inch dynomax system from the 3 inch I have now. I don't drag race and just driving on the street the torque moved up too high that I lost some of the fun. The 3 inch is fine if you drag race and revving at 6 grand the whole time, but for the street I miss the low end torque.

"getting raped of power"..? All the record holding cars (Fastest stock motor, fastest cam-only, fastest NA, Fastest 3.8) have 3" exhausts piping, and they seem to be doing the raping....

3" is fine. yes it moves the powerband up a little.

3" with a bullet or a resonator might move it up more than most people would like, but 3" with a "real" muffler ( magnaflow, borla, flowmaster ect ) will be fine.

You should listen to these guys, because, as it happens, they are all exhaust mechanics and hold degrees in the field of gas exchange and exhaust volume theory.

your post didnt help him at all, and none of us have to hold degrees in gas exchange and volume theory becuase all we expressed were opinons based on our expericences.

smokepanther is right about all the record holders, they all have 3" exhuasts, or run open headers. i wonder why.

this debate will go on forever, but to me the .25" size difference from stock is NOT an upgrade. any good exhuast will move your powerband up,thats what it is sopossed to do end of story.

              And you do?

I've said it once, I'll say it again: All the record-holding V6 cars have 3" exhausts. RECORD-HOLDING, as in NO ONE IS GOING FASTER THAN THEM.

You can run your goddamn mouth all you want about how V6's need a 2.5" exhaust otherwise it'll "kill their bottom end" compared to 3" piping, but do you have any ****ing proof? Do you have comparable dyno sheets showing a difference? Do you have timeslips showing a difference? No...all you have is your butt-dyno and your ****-skinners slapping a keyboard.

I have empirical proof that supports my position that 3" piping is not detrimental to a V6 F-body. You do not have anything solid and independantly observable to support your standpoint. Until you do, STFU and GTFO

I wish someone would to a dyno on a 2.5 and on a 3 to compare and end this madness! I got a 3" magnaflow waiting to be intalled and I dont think its going to hurt me. Hell the ls1 guys got 4"!

                      Re: quick question

if you read my post 3 inch is great for drag racing and shifting at 6,000+ rpm. If you want to make records go for 3 inch, if you drive your car on the street or even if its your DD then 2.5 is the way to go. I've had both setups with multiple muffler combos as well.
