        Re: K&N CAI Installation questions

an air pump pushes air into the exhaust to help finish burning the leftover hydrocarbons from the combustion prosses and also helps lightoff(get to operatng temp) the cat faster

why so your exhaust is more rresticed by the increse of air going threw it or because you wont have to replace it of because the emmisions people wont be able to hassle you about it. :spank: you have an automatic transmission right
my bad i've never seen a 3.4 with an air pump was your a cali car speedingfirebird

I agree. be happy you don't have it.

Cali car? nope, it was originally purchased in NY state.

                    Re: K&N CAI Installation questions

                    I got a 5-speed 3.4 whit an Air-Pump.

It`s only mounted on those vehicles who where sold att places where emmission demands was too strict for the car to pass tests whitout an Air-Pump. They work pretty well actually!

If you run your car rich it will produce more HC ( unburned hydro carbones )
Simplified said, HC is the gas the motor could not burn by its own combustion.

So the leftover gas flows into the exhaust manifold where an Air-Pump pumps oxygen into it. So the gas will burn a bit more, and lowering the HC and get cleaner exhaust coming out.. (not only HC actually, but you get the clue...)

By the way, my car is actually sold in Germany! It now lives in Norway!

Im putting on headers soon, and they dont have a place to plumb the Air-Pump so I have to live whitout it i guess... :D
