How do you gut cat on a 96?

I was looking around underneath my 96 yesterday and notice my cat is welded on both sides. Are people just cutting it out gutting it and welding it back in?

When I get headers and my cat back it looks like I might as well just get a high flow cat and be done with it.

A high flow converter may be the way to go for you. Gutting it will give alot of rasp, it's going to be very loud and it may not pass inspection (if you even have inspections).

That's what I figured. We used to have emissions testing but they did away with it.

My 85 vette had no emissions equipment on it at all and it would still pass so the test was not that strict.
