        what does a top end swap mean and will it show much improvemnt. what about ported how much does that run and is it worth it

          top end swap is replacing the top end of the motor like heads intake manifold all that with usually a 3400 or a 3.1 it is definatly a big improvment u will not be dissapointed if you do it

            how much does that usually run. so i am going to take everything off of a 3400 or 3.1 motor the 3.1 was in older firebirds right and the 3400 is a fwd motor?

              Well, you wouldn't want 3.1 parts, you would want 3100, if that's the way you went. As far as all the parts needed you might want to look here:

              I think some guys are looking towards the 3500 top end. Only thing is, you can't use the 3500 upper intake. You have to use 3500 heads, 3500 lower intake, and a 3400 upper intake. Actually there is a package over at 60degreeV6.com that is exactly that, and all the parts are ported. You can find it here:

              I'm not sure how much they charge for porting but if you want you could order the parts separate and then port the heads yourself if you now how or if you know someone who can do it for cheap:

              3500 heads(NON-Ported):

              3500 lower intake(Ported):

              3400 upper intake(Ported):

              If you can't port the heads yourself or have someone do it for cheap, then you'll need to go with the package. That is of course if you want the heads ported at all. If you don't then just order the parts separate, and save yourself a few hundred bucks.

                sorry for highjacking but is there any gain to porting the stock one? i have a spare sitting around and have ported 2 LS1 stock throttle bodys, and just was wondering...
