there's "a heck of alot of threads" because it gets asked every 3 days. Look in those threads for your answer

is it that hard to just answer his question? if you spend the time to type out a response, why not just answer his question?

yes it will make it a little louder, but it changes the tone a little, makes it a little more beefy, i did it when i had mine, it was worth it. Why flowmaster put that thing on there is beyond me.

Repitition is more annoying than superflous effort, so I'd rather type something different than the same crap over and over again.

            Re: resonator

I don't want to stir anything up, but I'm with smoke panther on this one, there is plenty of threads here that should be able to answer the OP's question.

            With that said...

I highly recommend you take the resonator off. The flowmaster in my opinion is a weak sounding exhaust with it on, it is way too quiet and mellow. Taking it off is easy, all you need is a 2.5" piece of straigh pipe with flanged ends. Measure, cut the resonator out, and clamp in the new straight pipe and take it to a shop to be welded.

I didn't notice any more rasp without it, other than neutral revs (where rasp is inevitable). Its louder, deeper, and more aggressive. Add in a 3" s-pipe and high flow cat and you have a great sounding exhaust.

Well I already have no cat. So I am concerned it will be too loud. My fiance thinks it is already obnoxious but I love it.

Well it will be loud... Starting my car in a parking lot I've set off 2 car alarms. One today, a car that was parked infront of me, and one when I was at school, a car that was parked next to me. Also driving past that same car at school in a parking lot I set off its alarm.

                    Re: resonator

I have the flowmaster american thunder catback with 80 series muffler... i replaced the resonator with a cutout that is 12" long. THAT, sounds like a beast. No joke. You should try it guys. Startup sounds exactly like a modded V8, and anything up to about 2.5k rpms is good. Beyond that it gets a little monotone. Anything before 2.5 I can only describe as a "full" and "Deep" tone. Doesn't cost much. Heres my car:

                          Re: resonator

I know this thread is a little old now but I have a question.

Would it work to cut off the resonator on the flowmaster cat-back and in it's place slip over a 2.5" ID cutout? ie: https://shop.quicktimeperformance.co...ct_detail&p=13

I know it would place the cutout after the cat, so would that be a bit dumb? Just thinking if I was going to put a pipe in place of the resonator might as well put a cutout in there for the days I want it a bit more open.

Another question, I live in Texas and really have no idea about inspection laws. On a visual inspection would having a sealed up cutout make me fail?

                            yes

What makes you think it's dumb? FWIW, most V6 f-body guys put their cutouts on the I-pipe just before the over-axle pipe...and that's well after the cat.

A sealed cutout shouldn't fail a visual inspection, unless there is a specific line-item in Texas statue that says something to the tune of "No vehicle shall have an exhaust cutout equipped to the exhaust system"
