yes it will make it a little louder, but it changes the tone a little, makes it a little more beefy, i did it when i had mine, it was worth it. Why flowmaster put that thing on there is beyond me.
Abbott long tubes,homemade true duals,slp ram air,whisper lid,eibach springs,kyb shocks,BMR subframe connectors, BMR LCA reloc brackets,BMR LCAs. T-top/manual converted

Re: resonator
I don't want to stir anything up, but I'm with smoke panther on this one, there is plenty of threads here that should be able to answer the OP's question.
With that said...
I highly recommend you take the resonator off. The flowmaster in my opinion is a weak sounding exhaust with it on, it is way too quiet and mellow. Taking it off is easy, all you need is a 2.5" piece of straigh pipe with flanged ends. Measure, cut the resonator out, and clamp in the new straight pipe and take it to a shop to be welded.
I didn't notice any more rasp without it, other than neutral revs (where rasp is inevitable). Its louder, deeper, and more aggressive. Add in a 3" s-pipe and high flow cat and you have a great sounding exhaust.

Re: resonator
Well I already have no cat. So I am concerned it will be too loud. My fiance thinks it is already obnoxious but I love it.

Re: resonator
I have the flowmaster american thunder catback with 80 series muffler... i replaced the resonator with a cutout that is 12" long. THAT, sounds like a beast. No joke. You should try it guys. Startup sounds exactly like a modded V8, and anything up to about 2.5k rpms is good. Beyond that it gets a little monotone. Anything before 2.5 I can only describe as a "full" and "Deep" tone. Doesn't cost much. Heres my car:

Re: resonator
I know this thread is a little old now but I have a question.
Would it work to cut off the resonator on the flowmaster cat-back and in it's place slip over a 2.5" ID cutout? ie: https://shop.quicktimeperformance.co...ct_detail&p=13
I know it would place the cutout after the cat, so would that be a bit dumb? Just thinking if I was going to put a pipe in place of the resonator might as well put a cutout in there for the days I want it a bit more open.
Another question, I live in Texas and really have no idea about inspection laws. On a visual inspection would having a sealed up cutout make me fail?
