  • setup question

hey guys, i tried to search and didnt quite find the exact answers i was looking for so i'd appreciate it if anyone could help me out.

i'm trying to decide which would be the best exhaust setup for my 96 v6 firebird. i was thinking about either (1): gutting the cat and putting on a 2.5in cat-back or (2): getting a 3in high flow cat, 3in. s-pipe, and a 3in. cat-back.

if i did do #1, would i need a 2.5'' s-pipe to fit the 2.5'' flowmasters cat-back? if i did do this, would the 2.25'' cat outlet be too restrictive and act as a bottleneck?

i'd would like to do #1 because it would be a little cheaper by not getting a hi flow cat, but i dont know if the gutted cat will make it sound like crap and take away from its performance???

i cant afford a borla and a magnaflow is pushing it, so flowmasters is looking the best right now cuz i really do need a new exhaust. i dont know if just gutting the cat is a bad idea or not. any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks guys.

I agree with Kristen. I would go with the high flow.

        Re: setup question

i have a 94 3.4 and on prom night about 2 weeks ago i went to pick up my date, and as i pulled into her driveway my cat finally broke loose and disconnected from my piping right after the headers... so i was headers and out...

that forced me after to take the cheapest route and just put in a 2.25 pipe in place of the cat and let it be.

i then got an amazing discount on a new magnaflow dual outlet muffler that i put on in place of my stockie, and it sounds good... not to loud, and works out well for me for the price of under 100$ for all the piping, and the brand new muffler

Thanks guys. what i think im gonna do is put a 3in hi flow and then go with the 3in magnaflow cat back. i dont know if 3in is too big for the v6's but i want it deep and loud. i just finished my custom cool air intake so im ready for the upgraded exhaust. does anyone know if this magnaflow would fit? http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

            Re: setup question

I asked this same question, and someone said the only difference between the two were the mounting points, but that an exhaust shop could fix that easily
