So I have a k&n cold air intake and flowmaster 80 series exhaust. It sounds pretty good but not really as deep and throaty as i would like. SO im thinking headers would help out a bit, but are they really worth the money?? Like would i be able to tell a huge diff in performance or would it all be just sound?? Any suggestions on headers by the way and maybe a link to the site they are on. Thanks guys

        Re: Headers

they are probably only worth it for the 3.8 if you have someone help you do them or you get soemone to put them on for cheap. Because if your only gunna get like 10-12 hp out of them for the 3.8. Then paying like 500-700$ isnt really worth it.

Then what would you suggest for $500-$700? And it's not that much to get them welded together is it? I mean, like if you install them yourself and jsut take the car up to the shop to get it welded?

the only 500 dollar headers I can think of are the CIA headers...uncoated pacesetters (which are just as good as coated) cost half that, and headers can be installed with basic hand tools, a jack/jackstands, and something to cut the y-pipe...so there's no real obstacle as to why you shouldn't install them yourself, bringing your total out of pocket expenses(if you already have the tools) to mid $200s. At that price range, the gains are well worth the money

I've got CAI And Cat-back dual exhaust. About to go finish the install, I'll get back tonight with it.

                    Re: Headers

Well, finished the install and OMG. My car sounds totally different, and a hell of alot better. It also pulls alot nicer in the lower RPMs. Everything seems to be running right, about 15 miles down the road I got a SES light, so I'm gonna get it scanned tomorrow. If you can get these and install them yourself, then I'd definitely say do it. But, if you're gonna pay to have them installed, it's kinda if-y. Overall I like them and definitely think you should get a set. The install was abit hectic, but all in all was not bad once you figure out how everything should be done. The hardest part for me was the EGR Tube. I actually dented it a tad bit trying to line it back up, and think that may be my SES.

Also: I finally got a chance to really check out under my car for the first time since I bought it. My MagnaFlow Cat-back which I thought was 2.5", really is about 1.75". I'm replacing that next weekend hopefully with 2.5", and possibly a cutout. Should give me some more power. Would go with 3", but the muffler is 2.5" in/out, so 3" would be pointless.

I bought headers...376$ off of summitracing.com they were cermaic coated...I noticed a small difference when i put em in...but they've been nuthing but headaches. They sound a bit deeper. For me when I had a shop install the headers they leaked, then they broke the EGR valve and that cost me 130$ to replace from GM, now the egr has become unsealed...once all the headaches are gone tho it'll be worth it...atleast to me it was. IMO its worth it to get headers in the 3.8's prior to 98 because in 98 i believe they got less restrictive manifolds? if im not mistaken

tubulars started in 2000. i swapped to some P&P tubular manifolds and it was power well worth the $50 i spent total.
