  • What Causes Rasp?

My friend has a 79 Dodge Aspen straight six. He cut off the muffler today so its straight exhaust from the manifold back. His car sounds a lot like a v8 now, and sounds a lot different than mine and the 3.8's I've heard. It has no rasp I can hear in the upper RPMs. My car has the same exhaust setup (straight through manifold back, except I have a cat). I always thought that rasp was caused by the small displacement of the engine, but as his is a 3.8l this can't be right. The only thing I can think of is the configuration, as in the v shape versus the straight engine. Can anyone explain this?

And if this is a no0bish question, please educate me.

mainly the firing order. V shape changes it to, iron block, iron heads, alot of factors.
