Deciding on an exhaust for my 1994 Firebird

Hey guys,

I have 3.4 liter v6 1994 firebird, and I'm looking into replacing the exhaust. I was wondering what your opinions are. I'm currently looking into Magnaflow and texas speed rumbler. I've heard that flowmaster sounds good, but doesen't flow good so I'm not really interested in that. As far as pricing, I'm trying to keep it reasonable, under $500. Also, would you reccommend a straight-through catalytic convertor? Thanks for the help! Please post your opinions on the texas speed rumbler, as thats what I am leaning towards!

i have the TSP rumbler on my 2002 v6.
my assessment: sounded slightly "ricey" with otherwise stock exhaust. its a 3" catback, so its not going to give the best tone on a car that isnt putting out a lot of power...
once i got my pacesetter headers on, with a highflow cat, it definitely made my exhaust deeper, and more like a v8.

you cant go wrong with magnaflow, but it also wont be anything special. its not as loud as the rumbler, but it will sound good.

i suggest that you buy the rumbler without the tips that they provide. i had a TERRIBLE time with their tips. so get the catback without them ($200) and then look around online for tips that you like. it wont be expensive. it also looks ok without tips IMO. thats how i have it now, and i like it.

i have the catco highflow cat, for something like $40, not bad.

Thanks for the reply. Do you meen it sounded kind of ricey when you only had the rumbler exhaust in without the highflow cat and headers, or do u meen your car sounded ricey before you bought the rumbler?

the person that owned my 94 bird before me said that flowmaster is the catback that was installed but im not 100% sure yet. Its dual exhaust 2.5 or 3 inch and it sounds pretty good. Id reccomend it.

Its gunna be kinda hard to find a catback that doesnt sound alittle ricey on the top end without headers and cat and such. Yadida.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I think that I may go with the rumbler and the catco highflow you reccommended. Thanks for your input as well kronic. So i should be able to get the rumbler for $225 and the catco for about $40. Then I just need tips and I'm set. Any good ideas for those or should I just shop around? By the way I'm in the canton/North Canton area. I think I'm only about like 30-40 minutes away from you so that's pretty cool haha.

By the way, did you have a link of where to buy the catco convertor? I can't seem to find it for that cheap. Everything I'm finding is in the $100's.

you can look for tips online (either used ones on the forums, or summit, thunderracing, ftpp.net, etc.). i know that ben (white95) who lives in massillon had mentioned to me that he has some tips that he would sell.

the tips i got that came with the rumbler looked like they had m80's stuck in them... which they didnt because the car is garaged ALL the time. i think that the heat made them sort of pop. theyre also a few different parts, its not a 1-piece tip. so the different parts started rattling and sounding like a chainsaw when i was driving, lol.

i think this is the cat i ordered. it looks like its $60... look around though! there are a bunch of different cats you can use.

haha that sound woulda sucked. I'll put up an intro a little bit later because I have work soon. However, does anyone know the inlet diameter for a 3.4 liter firebird? I'm sure tat they could adapt the size, but it may be cheaper if I knew the exact size. Thanks.

A Borla does not require a cat nor headers to sound right, but they are pricy...

welllll I don't think I have that much to spend haha. I think I'm going to go with the texas speed rumbler and the magnaflow highflow cat. I'll look around for tips as well. Thanks!

thats exactly what i ran untill i got headers. its going to sound bad when you first get it on, but give it a little while to break in and it'll sound alot better.

its going to be loud btw, its one of the loudest catbacks out there.
