I had mine changed a year and a half ago under the warranty. I also had a flowmaster muffler and I didn't have any problems getting a free cat from GM.
50 bux to put it on??? Man... I know places around here that will do it for 20 bux. Are you in high school? I don't know if your school is in session or if you can find a high school around there that has auto shop and they will usually weld it on for free if you buy the cat. I know my old high school put on some brakes for me last year for free... I just had to provide the brakes.
i would never trust them doing that, the welds would probably be crappy, and i would def. take the tires off and inspect the brakes the second i got home
Why is everyone so gun ho about dooing a CAT yourself, sure its easy... If you know how to weld, and have a saw to cut the old one off.
I am pretty fluent with cars but I don't have a welder or know how to weld.
I had mine replaced by dealer at 35k, they made sure that they would only do it if my exhaust was not modified in any way shape or form including just different tips.
The 2nd time my cat went out at like 70k, I had a cutout, didn't feel like arguing with the dealer, and also I was workint 65 hour weeks and driving 120 miles a day. So I just cut it off, gutted it, made a homemade clamp for the front of it(kind or weird shaped) and tuned the code out via HPT.
i would never trust them doing that, the welds would probably be crappy, and i would def. take the tires off and inspect the brakes the second i got home
at least they have a welder... i know i don't. and for a budget it would be free
the muffler wont make a diffrence on the warranty of the cat, besides it is a federal thing they have to do it. now if you have an aftermarket cat and decide at any point ot go back to the gm one it will cost you $50 for the core because the aftermarkets are worthless as far as cores go.
