I got that silencer box removed. I did this on my 2002 3800 V-6.
    It took about 15 min.
    1- 3.5in black pvc pipe
    2 hose clamps.
    Total Cost:$8.95

      Re: Removed Silencer Box

      Hi,
I got it from Ace Hardware. It is actually a 3.5in female to female coupler about 4 inches long. It is thicker and heavier than normal PVC. As I do not have my whisper lid yet. I figured with the oval rubber coming off the airbox lid, I could get a good tight fit without ovaling out the thinner pvc pipe. Every thing fits tight and when you butt each end up it is pretty unrestricted when you look down it.

          Yep,
They had some, several differant degrees in angle also. I really like the deep sound it has now when you get on it

you're better off using the equivalent of dryer ducting

I tried that last night, but it did not look all that good. However, I am sure the angle is not as much on mine as RyanAndyBob`s is?

I tried that man.. I went to lowes and everwhere but the only thing that fits our 98 is dryer ducting. Mine has lasted almost a year now with no problems what so ever. Its no the angle as much as fitting it on with the shroud being so close.

                  Cool.
I assume they changed the set up from year to year. I also assume it is differant on the LS1 apposed to the V-6

no just the 98. had the intake from the 97's then they went to the 180 like yours. althe way untill 2002 when they haulted production. And yes the LS1 has a diffrent intake.

Does anyone know of any disadvantages of removing the silencer?

                          Howdy,
Taking out the silencer box allows for some better airflow. Also, you can really hear the intake sucking the air when you accelerate. Sounds cool.

Nor sure if you know, but be sure you use something like 3 in pvc or dryer hose to reconnect the airbox to the throttel body intake. My first post in this thread has an attachement with a pic as to how I did it with pvc.
