  • egr leak is no more

so ive head an egr leak for a LONG time. it started after i had my headers installed. it started off as a small little leak, and then slowly blew out the whole gasket and was huge. i tried using RTV to make a new gasket, but it kept blowing out every time. then, white95 on here helped me out and used gasket paper to make a new gasket, and then coated it with rtv. this sealed it up for a bit, but it blew out again.
SO. i ordered the lower tube assembly from gmpartsdirect ($42 shipped or something). we got it put in, and the problem is gone! basically, it is NOT the gasketed area that seals the egr tube to the header. it is the little tube itself. once the two parts get separated, you really cant re-use the same tube, because it wont fit in as well as it did the first time, and you will be left with a leak.

i have pictures that i will get up asap that show what im talking about.

yep that was my issue too, the egr tube gets bent and wont seal good. i just got block off plates becuase id rather not have the egr system anyway.

Yeah i put some on too right where the leak was and the air revented around the silicone to the sides so i just need to put sealent around the whole egr, its a lil quieter clicking now tho. Im going to the track tom night to see what i can run im pumped

Would a possible remedy be to wrap the EGR tube up after spreading some copper RTV over the whole tube? Just an idea... I'm about to do my headers in about two weeks, and I'm a little nervous about the whole EGR thing considering I've heard horror stories about it. In any case, thanks for the tip! It may come in handy down the road.
