  • Anyone else with pacesetters on your 3.4 have rubbing issues?

Hey guys. I had a muffler put on Predator bird to hush it down a bit and it worked beautifully. Trouble is now i can hear another exhaust related noise. When the characteristic rough idle comes and goes I can feel the drivers side header or possible the pipe coming off of it hitting or rubbing something under there. Im assuming the k member but i havent really dug into it deep enough. I can hear it and also feel it in my feet from the floor. I was going to dig into it this weekend and see if i can bend or adjust something but my question was have any of yall had this same problem before? Thanks in advance guys :)

yep. The Y-pipe driver's side rubbed on the subframe. We fixed it by heating the bejesus out of the subframe and beating it. We reshaped the subframe to move it, oh about a quarter inch for the Y-pipe to clear.

Ahh i see i see. Well thats exactly what my problem is i think. I guess ill be making another run for the muffler shop this weekend since i dont have a torch or adequate way to get under it safely. Glad it sounds like something simple. Ive noticed it only rubs when it gets heated up and consequently this is when my rough idle issue comes around. Im willing to bet the rough idle is being magnified through the subframe from that y pipe rubbing. I appreciate your help. Hopefully I can get that knocked out this weekend :)

Update: I went yesterday to the muffler shop again and sure enough there was a raised spot on the pipe that has been rubbing on the subframe so a little heat and some ingenuity and its all well again. Thanks for the advice :)

what muffler did you put on there? did you just replace the bullett or the whole rear section?

I was forced to loose one of the rear tips :(

It has a muffler in the factory location now with the drivers side b&b tips coming off of it. The bullet is still on there and everything from the axle to the front is untouched. I could have put the other side on as a dummy set but i decided not to. Its in the garage in case i change my mind. I wasnt too disappointed since i like the firehawks with the tips coming out the drivers side only. Between the muffler and replacing the dash, its as quiet as a caddy now :p

single b&b tip  maybe you could do a borla style setup and put a block off plate in the pass exhaust pipe and run the exhaust through the muffler on the driver side. just a suggestion.
