  • 3.4 pacesetter header bolts

some of my header bolts worked lose, and I have managed to tighten all but one. The front bottom passenger side is impossible to get to. I have purchased over $100 in various size/shape allen wrenches (ball head, t-handle, sockets), and even manufactured a few on my own (no joke). After hours of knuckle wrenching pain, I can get the allen wrench on, but I cannot move it (either because my hands won't fit, or there is no room to move the wrench. I already have the alt off and some of the alt brackets.

Does anyone know what I can use to get in there? And serious, what's with the allen heads on these bolts? Such a pain in the butt, and a limited set of tools to work with.

Anyone w/ pacesetters on the 3.4 figure out how to get in there?

    Thanks.

That one I had to tighten from underneath. I believe the compressor was still unbolted from the bracket and slid forward at the time. Not sure if you can reach it with the compressor in place? Give it a shot.

I used the Stage8 bolts but did not use the locking clips. They still tighten up really nice, felt like most of them bottomed out in the head. I went back and checked them several months later and still just as tight.

I bought a pre-owned set for $25 or so IIRC it said LS1 on the package. The locking clips would not fit.

I couldn't get that one from underneath. I probably could have with the compressor off. After much hardship, I was able to get maybe a quarter turn out if it.

I just bought some Stage 8 bolts. Next time any of them come lose, I'm going to replace them. Stupid me, at the time I bought the headers, I was so busy researching other engine components, I never realized they made locking bolts that fit the 3.4.
