Stock Exhaust w/ Cutout or Aftermarket?

I like having a quiet car when it comes to going/leaving places when it is very late. i really really love the sound of loud exhaust so i was thinking of getting the cutouts. the problem is, i still want it to be noticeable even when i dont have them open, but want it to just be a nice quiet sound.

wow, im confusing myself.

anyway. should i just get the cutouts with stock exhaust so it can be either quiet, or loud. or get aftermarket just to have a little rumble at all times, then bust out the loud exhaust when i open it up.

That's the same situation i'm looking at right now.. though i'll probably JUST get the cutout cause i'm out late almost every night at work.

If you would be needing to change the sound often, than I would suggest getting an electric cut-out. Because it an be a pain in the butt to get under the car everytime.

^ That's true. Also, you could consider a Borla tunable catback. It's a lot more money, but worth it IMO. You can make it quiet, loud, or in-between. If you're worried about cost though, stick with your idea. I think that when you have the cutout open, though, you will be leaving it that way because you'll love the sound. That's what I do with my 96'.

I was thinking about this with my convertible too, ironically. I have the stock exhaust with polished Z28 tips. Just adding the tips to the rear made a noticebable difference in the exhaust tone. The car sounds deep and very nice. I was surprised that just adding tips would make a difference. I probably won't mess with a good thing, though, and since it's a convertible, I don't want it obnoxiously loud. I like cruising in peace in that car.

yea, electric cutouts is what i wanted, because once i leave the persons house im at, or mine, i will probably open it up, haha.

if i do keep the quiet exhaust, do you think i should go with an aftermarket exhaust with like, a silencer, or one that just doesnt make any sound?

When I get my 01 Camaro, Im throwin a cut out on it for track use, then Im not moddin a single thing under the hood until the car can pull the front tires off the ground. Cut outs are nice for daily drivers and sleepers. :-D

...wtf u are NOT modding the engine till u pull the front tires off the ground on a launch......don't see that happening with a stock engine

The silencer part is up to you. I'm thinking you won't even both bother with it because you'll be real happy with the sound. I recently had a straight pipe muffler put on my 06' Eclipse. It has a silencer you can put in it. I've had it on for about a month and a half already and have not even attempted to silence it. It just sounds so cool...

well the thing is, im coming and going from houses and stuff where people are sleeping, including mine. so i really dont want to wake people up. i was thinking of getting either A) a silent aftermarket exhaust (if it even exists...) or B) a silencer.

that way, all i need to do is open the electric cutouts when its day or im not near any houses and close it up when im coming home or leaving someones house.


does that make sense?

Apparently you don't know much about the potential of F bodys structural integrity. I'm not talking about a three foot wheelstand, but I plan on at least 1.6 60 foots before I throw a lid or catback on. Go ahead, build your car backwards, but I want a car that can handle the power thats going to be put down. You'll never see a thread from me "I just put on a smaller S/C pulley and sprayed 175 shot outta the gate and now the rear end is makin funny noises".

230 ft.lbs of torque that makes it DIRECTLY to the ground will lift the front of a 3200 lb car up (never said the car wasn't gonna be put on a diet).
