No one will put my headers on! I've tried four different shops around my area, and no one will even look at the headers... They're too worried about the bolts breaking off, and it's just not profitable for them to take that much time on one project. I'm taking my car to get just the Magnaflow catback on today, which will make me kinda happy. But I'm pissed about the headers not even having a chance. Thinking of selling them and just forgetting about them. Anyone have any suggestions? My dad thinks it's a horrible idea to think about doing it myself. Too worried about breaking a bolt off in the block. I was prepared to do it all myself though. I have PB Blaster to soak the bolts, JB weld for the EGR, etc.

Re: Pissed off...
Looks like a do it yourself or sell it kinda thing...If your confident it yourself and your aware of the concequences, then i say go for it, headers make a v6 sound amazing IMO.just be sure to get ALL of the old gasket off b4 applying the new one. But if you feel you are uncertian about your skill level, then don't attempt it. your going to second guess your self about every little detail. and if you mess up you probably wont know how to fix it. and be out of your car for a couple weeks.1998 Red T-top V6 Camaro

Re: Pissed off...
Getting my cat back and new carsound cat installed tomorrow. I'll probably hold on to the headers for a while, and if I get some free time over the winter maybe I'll try and get them on by myself. It's just a disappointment because I've been waiting for the end of summer to do all of this and now I can't really do all of it.

Re: Pissed off...
Apparently my dad doesn't really understand that I'm the same way he was when he was 19 with his '55 Bel Air. Swapping his small block w/a 4 speed to a big block with an automatic. And he said he's done headers before. He just didn't have his dad looking over his shoulder. He's an advocate of "if it's not broken, don't fix it (or mod it)", and that all late-model cars are impossible to work on. I don't really think 4th gen Camaros/Firebirds fall into that category. (Except for maybe when it comes to the headers...)
And I have read your writeup 97RS4Life. I even wrote down simple instructions for when I went to do it. I might just do it sometime over the winter without him knowing. Bought Abbott gaskets, PB Blaster, JB Weld, header bolts. I was ready to do this. However, I'm not ready to give up. I might just do it one weekend when I'm out of school for Christmas.
The dumb part is, we took it to the first shop, and the guy swore up and down that you had to break the motor mounts loose just to get the new headers in there. I bit the side of my cheek when he said that.
And if bolts DO break off, there is usually about 1/4" sticking out that you can get vice grips on, correct?
I have a '99 Camaro, and if I had a '00 with the tubular manifolds, I probably wouldn't be too distraught, but I know that I'm going to want that deeper sound that the headers give.Last edited by Disruptore4; 08-21-2007, 07:42 AM.

^ word up. Oh, and some advice, I know this is gonna sound mean. But you should not still be attached to your parents when modding a car. Get your own place and get settled before you dump money into something that really is not gonna hold much value over time.
The guy meant break loose, not break the bolts. I dont think you have to jack the engine up but if you do, its not hard. I had to on the 2002 Mustang GT i just put shorties on.

Re: Pissed off...
Just do it yourself. have patience because getting the old manifolds off is 3/4 of the work. The headers go in easy!!! Plus it opens space to get to the spark plugs so you can do a tune up in about 15 minutes.
Btw don't be afraid to put a torch to some of the nuts and studs holding the manifold on. Don't cut them but heat them up and they come right off.
