  • Fixing small exhaust leaks...

Well i mentioned in another post, that my exhaust is starting to rust in some spots on the muffler, but thats not the issue now/yet.

Where my cat is welded to the s-pipe, there is an exhaust leak about the size of a bead... Very small, however, it still makes some annoying noise and slight rattling at certain rpm's, so its noticable.

Would I be able to just patch this up with some JB weld or is that not good enough? If not I guess I would have to take it to shop to have the welds fixed? I was really hoping to just have a very easy fix, but wanted some input since I wasn't sure what to do in this situation.

JB weld won't work, need to have it welded.

JB weld will probably work, im pretty sure it is rated for very high temps, i know you can use it on engine blocks

JB weld will not work on your exhaust. It'll get brittle and flake off. The best would be to weld then spray something to protect from rust. Cheap and easy would be to get some exhaust mender stuff from your local auto store. I've had some luck with those before when I wasn't able to weld it.

as most have stated JB weld wont work, a couple years ago we had an old corsica that had an exhaust leak and we tried JB, it worked for a couple days but eventually it would come off. deffinatly try to get a freind to do it, my buddy welded my new flowmaster cat back up, saved me about $100. cant beat havin a good time and savin $100 at the same time.

I used JB Weld on an exhaust leak when I needed to. It worked but thats because it was in a slot not just sitting on a flat surface of pipe. Don't use it...it creates a very distinctive burning smell and it will eventually flake off after awhile.
