  • Question About Headers and Stuff

Okay, today I began my header installation. I had researched quite a bit and felt I was ready for it. I thought it would take a few hours and I would be done. But, of course, it didn't work that way. The first obstacle I had was getting the front bottom header bolt out on the passenger side. I have a 3.4, and man I thought it was impossible until I moved my compressor, and it was still pretty tough.

Then I realized that the old bolts wouldn't fit the headers. This sucked because I had never read anywhere that you had to replace those too. This was probably my fault, but still, it took an hour just to figure out why the bolts weren't working lol!

Then the driver side header flange was a bit too big to fit, so I had to grind it down some. It finally fits, and I'm happy about that now.

My question, if you're still following, is what size header bolts should I get? I followed the guide on here for the 3.8; it said 5/16 (which fit) at 1'' long. The outside bolts fit (for the most part). Problem is, the middle bolts still seem too long. They almost fit, but just won't tighten all the way. So what I'm wondering is what other 3.4 people here had to do? Again, I've never seen anything about header bolts on this forum (besides those Stage 8 ones). Also, how did you tighten the bottom bolts, especially on the passenger side? It seems literally impossible to me, and its really really frustrating.

Final question- do cat-back systems usually come with the S pipe? I got the Rumbler from Texas Speed, but no S pipe. :( If not, does anyone know the average rate for having a shop mandrel bend one? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading my long story lol.

I don't know much about the 3.4 headers, but I can answer the shop question. I have a shop make me mandrel bent pipes from the stock s-pipe to my muffler, total cost 100 dollars. I can only guess that just an s-pipe would be around 25-50 bucks.

Cool, that's not too bad. Do you think most muffler shops can do it? I don't know of any places that do it, but I used to work at Napa so tomorrow I'm going to go up there and ask them if they know anywhere.

Any decent shop that can do mandrel bends should be able to do it just fine. If yours can't, I'd suggest finding a new shop ^.^

OK new question... I got the headers on finally. I had to take off the oil pressure sensor (I think). Its the one that you have to move to get the drivers side header on, its connected to where the oil filter sits. Anyway, when I started up my car, it starts leaking oil really bad. Its too hot too put my hand down there now, so while its cooling off I thought I'd ask if anyone knows if its broken or if I just need to push it down more? I hope its not broken. :(
