I have a 99 firebird with the 3.8 and am trying to find the queitest and best exhaust for reducing rasp. I of course want to gain performance but i can deal with a little less performance for a better sound. I would like to keep exhaust levels down to as close as stock. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Best exhaust for reducing rasp
Get a 3" in/out cat, make an S-pipe or have one made, and get 3" pipe back to a summit 3" in/out muffler. I have it on pacesetter headers and it's an awesome sound under throttle but quiet otherwise.\'97 Camaro M5 Y87 3.23 LSD, homebrew CAI, highfloCat, Flowmaster catback, Pacesetter headers, specstage3 clutch and aluminum flywheel, !egr, 2kW system.

Possible L67 bottom end w/ abbott heads and a turbo in the works... gotta do more homework

Re: Best exhaust for reducing rasp
I am really liking the idea of the bullet style muffler on top of a regular cat back and a high flow cat. I might be asking for a little too much here but i really like how the sound level is with stock but i would like a deeper tone. I like to not hear in much inside the car below say 2000-2500k RPMs but a good sound when you get on it. Could this be acheived with pacesetters, a high flow cat, 12'' or 18'' magnaflow bullet style muffler, and a regular magnaflow muffler. I would most likely get 2.5'' because i hear it is quieter and i would also replace the s-pipe. And i have also read that cutouts reduce noise while closed. Does anyone have anything to say about that?

Re: Best exhaust for reducing rasp
For size, would doing 2.5" or 3" produce better sound? I was planning on 3", because I'm planning on putting some FI and/or a V8 in the car down the road. (Prolly just FI). But, I don't want a ricer sounding Bird while I wait to get boosted >.>

Re: Best exhaust for reducing rasp
with a 2.5" exhaust the gases exit the pipes faster with more speed and intensity and that, I think, would produce a louder sound than a 3". 3" exhaust flows better anyway.
Speaking from experience, my 2.5" flowmaster american thunder catback made my car sound like a weed whacker on full throttle. My 3" custom exhaust sounds richand deep but quiet below 2500rpm\'97 Camaro M5 Y87 3.23 LSD, homebrew CAI, highfloCat, Flowmaster catback, Pacesetter headers, specstage3 clutch and aluminum flywheel, !egr, 2kW system.

Possible L67 bottom end w/ abbott heads and a turbo in the works... gotta do more homework
