        Re: questioooon about mileaaage increases...

Back when I still had my 3.4 liter, I got the most increase from doing my CAI and a Stage II Jet Chip. I'm pretty sure that the Jet Chip boosts performance by making it run a little leaner, but I could be wrong. Of course, I allways debate how good the chip would be for a high milage car. Running leaner usually means you run hotter, atleast that how it is with an aircraft engine.

As far as the exhaust, since you allready have a high flow cat and freeflow muffler, I wouldn't worry about that too much. Your not going to end up increasing your MPG enough to pay for the piping. I would concentrate on the intake and go from there.

$10 for petro in FR is one thing, but you guys also have lots of diesel options. We have trucks... that's it. I'd MUCH rather have diesel than gas... but no. Everyone here is afraid of it. :(

The thing is that if you want a car that isn't too thirsty, you're gonna have to spend money. Make the calculation how many miles you're gonna have to make to pay back the modifications you have to do.

TealV6, diesel cars are much more expensive than gasoline ones.
You have to make more than 100 000 miles before starting to save money compared to gasoline cars. And problems is that new diesel technology isn't reliable and breakdown occure around 90 000 miles. Reparations are up to 1000$ most part of the time. Not really a good deal :(

My point is to maintain the car properly and drive gently, you'll save more than making modifications on it.

the US has the highest price of gas minus taxes.

his country just taxes him to death, if you do the conversion, he is paying less per gallon minus the tax

My 3.8L with auto gearbox does around 22mpg.
I put foot hard down quite often and push it up to 110mph on highway. I just had it and wanted to compare with my 1968 SS.

                  Mjbrunsm, nice your 30-32mpg
I managed to do 29mpg once, just drove it gently :)

dang...how many miles? My 97 3.8 has almost 140k, and I get about 23mpg (mostly highway driving) with 4.10's. And I don't baby it round town, I've tried but it's diffucult... Then again, I only do about 65mph on the highway though.

Last time I checked, improving efficiency is a good thing, and it means requiring less input of energy to create the same effect, right? So, by definition, if you make something morevefficient, wouldn't that mean an increase in mpg?
