I just got an SES light, and the code said P1406 at Autozone.
I don't want to replace it right now, but I'd rather try to clean it first.
What do I need to do to clean my EGR?
97 3.8 w/ 93K.
I have cleaned mine many times. SES stays off for about 2 - 4 months. Then I have to do it again.
I use Seafoam Deep Creep. Im assuming you already know how to take it off. Once off turn it upside down, spray SDC in the holes (use something to poke open the valve). It will eventually fill up with SDC, once it does that, shake it and then pour it out (you may want to let it soak). Use a very thin rag and shove it in hole the best you can, I used a stiff wire to push it in. Twist the rag and scrub the best you can, now repeat the process. I do the process about 3 times. :stp:
While its soaking dont forget to spray SDC into the holes where the EGR mounts.
BTW: My codes were P1404 and P0404 - Open / Close performance (2000 3.8)
I would imagine so. Im sure a carb cleaner type will work best though. Also make sure you dont let it get on the contacts. Not sure if it will hurt, but when I let mine soak awhile it starts to leak out and down the side of the EGR.
Dont forget to spray where the EGR goes. I forget every damn time.
Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
