  • my first mod help

well for my first mod i want to do exhaust. i really like flowmaster as i had it on my other car but my question is should i buy the kit, or should i put the 80 series muffler and weld 3in pipe from the cat to the muffer and put 3in from muffler into 3.5in tips. or just stay 2.5 all the way? or 3in to muffler and 2.5 after??? please help me as to which should sound better i wanna get as close to a v8 sound as possible and i plan on doing headers after so i need some ideas on the cat because i dont want to get a tune right now and i dont want a SES light on now. thanks guys

If you're absolutely insistant on the Flowmaster muffler, then 3" would be the route to go to get the best sound possible out of it.

Also check out the Exhaust Clips sticky at the top of the Intake/Exhaust page if you haven't already. It may help you decide what you want.

      And welcome! :wavey:

no matter what u do to it - it wont sound like an 8. But u can still get a nice sounding 6. Youll need headers, highflow cat, and a cutout. A more agressive cam will also help. I would stay away from flowmaster and go with a magnaflow. Sounds much better but its by no means loud. And if u put the cutout on there what u have after that cat wont matter because your gona bypass that anyway.

The least rasp you'll have is with the stock setup. But the resonator that comes with the Flowmaster catback will help with that somewhat.

Reducing rasp and finding the sound you want is all about trial and error. Try to find what you think sounds best and go with it. Of course, advice from fellow members with different setups can help too.

All I can say is, DO NOT GET FLOWMASTER if you don't want to sound like a honda. lol.. seriously though. Borla is probably the best muffler you can get for this car, and sounds the closest to a V8 if you really want to compare it, but it is physically impossible for it to sound like an 8. A 4 cyl. can sound like an 8, but a 6 can't.

I went with the Magnaflow myself. I got the 3" since I intend to replace get headers this summer.

If you have no intention of getting headers than go with the 2.5". Also, avoid the flowmaster. I heard it tends to rust out.

I discovered with my flowmaster, that by using the 2.5 american thunder catback, and replacing that damn resonator with a piece of straight exhaust pipe, you can get a good sound without rasp. But as stated before, the best sounding v6's have headers, a hi-flo cat, and a cutout.

Ill be installing a set of pacesetter next sunday. Sometime during that week ill get a good soundclip posted - coated headers, highflow cat, and cutout. Im tempted to throw a cutout on there before the car and see its its really louder. cutout is only 20-30 bux.

My flowmaster is in great condition and has been for awhile... I love the sound and I get compliments on it all the time. If you want Flowmasters, then go for it.
