My car is throwing the p0420 code. The discription is catalyst balance inefficiency. I thought it was the catalytic converter so I replaced that but the light is still on. Any ideas for what might be wrong?

I reset the code right before I replaced the cat and the light was off for about 2.5 weeks, and it just turned on yesterday again.Comment

No i havent messed with the intake but I put a set of headers on about two months ago and the egr was leaking for a long time. I got it to stop leaking but could that be the reason?Comment

If there's an exhaust leak it could be causing your o2 sensors to read that the cat isn't working right...Y87 Package

I put on an after market one. Its a magnaflow highflow cat. I got it from zzpreformance.com so I'm pretty sure its the right one.Comment

Highflow cats will set the SES light in most cases. You'll need a sim or tune it out with HP tuners. A sim is cheaper by like 450 but I'd advise getting HP tuners if you plan on doing any further modding.

I have a magnaflow and i have not ever had the SES problem

I have 3" Borla cat back with Pacesetters headers and a Magnaflow 3" high flow cat & 3" S pipe with no SES light. I think it has to do with where you put the O2 sensor in the pipe behind the cat.sigpic
