  • Recommend a High flow cat...

Well, once I get my stimulus check I plan on getting some Pacesetter headers and a high flow cat. I am not really knowledgeable when it comes to cats, so I ask you fine folks to recommend one.

I have the 3" Magnaflow cat-back so I would like the cat to be 3" in and 3" out. I heard Random tech is good, but their cats are as much as the headers. I also must point out that I am in NY which follows California emission standards. After the install it still needs to pass emissions inspections.

So please, recommend a decent high-flow cat, preferably one under $200. Thanks in advance.

It aint 3 and 3 though.

Thanks, but it needs to be 3 and 3.

What about this one I found...
        13-172-30000 Random Technology 3" inlet/outlet, 11.5" long, High-Flow Catalytic Converter $174.99

I wouldn't spend that much, head over to ls1 tech and see if anyone has a 3 and 3 for sale there.

That looks like a decent one, but according to the description I would need an O2 sim or an O2 bung welded. I would probably need to do that regardless which cat I buy.

Does anyone have experience with the magnaflow?

I don't know how far your planning on going with modifications but I would recommend HP Tuners eventually and take out that furthest o2 sensor.

I have the magnaflow cat and have had no problems with it. It threw my code though but a sim or Hptuners will fix that. You could probably get it even cheaper if you went to zzperformance.com.

Re: Recommend a High flow cat...

I am pretty much 100% with the Magnaflow. I'll get the O2 sim only if it throws a code.

So my shopping list when the stimulus check comes is...
                      -Pacesetter Ceramic coated headers
                      -Grade 8 locking bolts
                      -Abott Racing gaskets
                      -Magnaflow 3" high flow cat

                      Am I missing anything?

Magnaflow. I've heard their quality is far superior to the Catco's, and well worth the money. It's also OBDII approved whereas the Catco's are not. My dad has one and it never threw a code.

That is the guy that I bought mine off of...he has an auto-accept/auto-decline. I had to bid $160 for it to go through.

Of course, I had to buy a C.A.R.B one and I don't know if NY demands that or just OBD-II...if it is OBD-II, you can find them for MUCH cheaper.
