uh, to match your heads and gaskets....bigger just means your heads are not going to match up and therefore ruin flow

so...if i have stock heads then i shouldnt get them ported at all? cause shouldn't they mate up right from the factory?

Gasket match. They don't match from the factory and you want to remove any casting flash and open them up a bit. Gasket matching will open them up about 1/8-1/4 all the way around. There will be clearly defined carbon build up to guide whomever. Do not polish the runners to a completely smooth surface inside. It will decrease flow.

I agree. the manifold is tuned to create "standing waves" or something that ups the pressure. So unless you have a degree in fluid dynamics don't mess with the runners. And also the smooth ones have less turbulence, and turbulence at that point helps it mix with the gas.
