Does a ram air setup on a V6 do anything?

Re: Does a ram air setup on a V6 do anything?
depends on what you expect it to do. Your not really going to get "ram" air in the technical meaning of that word (if you want to see real ram air in action take a look at military jet engines!), but that doesn't mean it won't help. The goal of "ram" air kits for our cars is to get better flow and get fresh air from outside the engine compartment. All good things. Real ram air would either require a MASSIVE scoop or a rediculous air pressures, however you will probably see some perfomance increase with an slp ram air, or whatever your looking at.

I don't have a ram air hood but I think I got a decent return by: getting a whisper lid, short straight tub connecting it to the TB, replacing air filter with K&N and cutting a slot in the filter housing allowing more air in that wasn't previously able to. Def makes a more noticable sound on acceleration.Let's flip a coin. Heads I get tail, Tails I get head.

I think as long as you have all the other free mods, like !silencer, and have a whisper lid, ram air is just like CAI. I like it better than CAI though.. CAI's make no sense to me, because they are still in the engine bay.. I like 98 3.8/slow6's homemade ram air though.

like said before the only real benefit is the engine will be taking in cooler denser air which is good, but your not gonna see a snap your neck difference. I've heard for a real difference in power you need to go over 100 to see a gain of some sort. I will be doing the FTRA mod though because fresh air is better.

When I bought it they used to sell it as a package which was $350 I believe and it comes with the leather tube etc... but now they don't anymore ....they sell in pieces

I have a GM Ram Air hood and the K&N FIPK and noticed a little. Not enough to brag to anyone about though. I did notice a little on the bottom end from the K&N, but not enough to buy it new. I did it mainly for looks, and dang does it look good.
All the ram air hood does is let cold air come in from the top instead of just from the bottom. As far as any performance gains at all, I would definately agree with everyone else on very little, if any at all. Especially if you have the stock air box.2000 White Firebird
K&N Filter, Aluminum Driveshaft

95 White Firebird - Laid to Rest
K&N FIPK, Flowmaster Exhaust, Jet Chip
