  • will bigger tips change my exhaust note much?

i have a flowmaster 80 right now, w/ just some budget rolled edge 2.5" tips...i'm thinkin of puttin some 3.5", 12" long slash cuts on, and i'm wonderin if the bigger tips will change the sound?

Shouldn't. The muffler controls the sound, anything afterwards is just decoration.

Resonated tips will change the exhaust note noticeably..

You won't really notice it at all... you'll be happy either way I'm sure.

the weight and volume will affect it a bit. Heavier, bigger tips should lower the pitch. Not sure how much. I want to see about some resonated ones...

Re: will bigger tips change my exhaust note much?

i figured if anything they'd lower it a bit especially since there isnt much pipe behind the muffler anyway, and increasing that bit by an inch would probably lower the note...wondering about resonated tips, would they do anything for the rasp maybe?

Unless you change the muffler bearings too, you wont hear a noticeable difference in exhaust tone with bigger tips

If your worried about rasp, check out the Aero Turbine AR25 and AR30 resonators. But yes, I would imagine that resonated tips would affect rasp in a positive way.

But as kala said, try changing your muffler bearings and see where that takes you.
