I've got the top end of my engine apart for polishing and while I was at it I decided to delete my EGR, but now am second guessing myself. I've read a lot that it will cause lean mixtures and possible knocking at mid RPM's. The only reason I would want to delete it would be for performance gain...so the make or break of keeping it off or putting it back on is....is the EGR valve closed at WOT, thus making the deletion of it purely for performance gain pointless because it isnt even operating at WOT? Thanks guys :D

The EGR is closed at WOT. Deleting it will get you about 2 mpg less and do nothing for performance.

thanks guys. this is exactly what i was thinking. im going to put it back on then. so...this begs the question now. why take it off in the first place? are there any positives even if it is tuned completely out?

cleaner engine bay and also if you have headers they tend to be a pain to get the egr to seal to the egr port. Plus it is another thing to fail on ya down the road.

alright, this is what ive decided. I'm gonna put it back on for now, and once i do the A4 to M5 swap, when i get the new PCM tuned to boosted application, I'll remove the EGR and have them tune it out as well, and tune the car to compensate for the lack of exhaust gas in the intake charge. thanks guys! :D
