decided over the past year to start updating/rejuvinating my 98 3.8L Y87 camaro so over the last weekend installed a set of pacesetter headers, removed the cat, and installed dynomax super turbo muffler cat back. and i must say what a hell of a lot of work but it does sound pretty badass. a little raspy at the top end but nothing a resonator wont fix. headers went as well as headers can be expected. broke the last bolt flush with the head but the mechanic rigged something up to get it out. got some 24" -2.5" straight pipe to replace the cat...Did the whole mock up with the U pipe from summit to turn it into an S pipe used the o2 sim from thunder racing and it works like a charm no ses light and then the final part was the dynomax muffler. didnt run into any problems here just that i had excessive movement with the can, and also the can was tilted in the width direction that i had no clearance under the car. finagled with it a bit, replaced the ruber hangers for some sturdier ones from my auto store and everything is good to go. only thing is i clamped everything so whenever i get to a shop i will weld it all up. there is a def a significant change in pull and accel and obviously sound. smells kind of funny too but that is mostly the paint burning off the headers( which so far i havent had any problems with the painted headers as so many do, engine bay temp is normal.) a slight issue with headers if anyone plans to install pacestter headers, be on the watch for your egr pipe, if you havent disconnected it , from resting on a coolant hose, mine did and it burnt right though it, quick fix but a paint in the a** when you just flushed the system out a week before. so i hope this helps out anybody thinking about doing this , highly recomend dynomax if your not looking for ear popping sound, couple that with pacesetter headers, some abbot racing gaskets, and a whisper lid with K&N filter def wakes these engines up.
Would welding up all the connections make the exhaust tone any diffrent?
