But yeah man, don't hack off the muffler, just buy a good system. Maybe even do as suggested earlier and buy a cut out, maybe throw on headers.

        Re: Taking off the Muffler?

So I ignored everyone here and took off the muffler.

It sounds awesome the low growl sounds just like a v8...until i hit 3k RPM's...then, omfg, it makes the most horrifying backfiring ricer noise. I have since replaced the open pipe with a Dynomax muffler. It's quieter but much nicer with less interior resonance.

Moral of the story: Mufflers are on cars for a reason :)

I guess my only question is, "how do i get rid of the ricey backfire at High RPM's, and what causes it?"

Installing a bullet type resonator will reduce the rasp.

You'll never get rid of the rice twang at high RPMs. If you want your car to sound like a V8 then buy a V8. Thats just the sad truth.

Why not an LT1 or LS1?

I mean if you're going to swap out an engine you might as well put something good in >_<
