  • Solution for Pacesetter header gaskets yet??

Has there been a solution for header gaskets for the Pacesetters yet?

I first had Fel-pro, and those leaked baddd. Then I switched to the paper ones that came with the Pacesetter headers and it was fine.

Now last year, I had my engine and trans replaced and my mechanic used some stock gaskets or something and they leak again like the fel-pro. So wondering if anyone has found anything that seals up better than the Pacesetter gaskets. IE: Clear image gaskets, Abbott racing gaskets, etc.

Yea that's what I heard too, but its been a while since I remembered which ones I was gonna buy haha, but so I'm guessing the abbott ones are shaped exactly like the pacesetters are more circular then oval like the stock manifolds and gaskets?

Also what material are the abbott gaskets made out of?

no, they are oval. from lance:

"Abbott Racing Heads has your fix. Made for the 3800 series II, these gaskets are made from 1000* exhaust gasket material that will not burn out like conventional paper gaskets. They are patterned after our ported heads but will also fit stock heads. These will work on any car as long as it's a 3.8L."

With the abbotts you have to do some trimming so the flow and line up perfect.

Checkout the sticky "considerations when installing new exhaust"

I've had great luck with the Fel Pros they are oval like the exhaust ports. I just sprayed them down with copper spray gasket sealant, let them sit for about an hour then install. They have 2 open slots so you can put 2 bolts back in a little bit, then you slide the gasket in. Then just put in the other bolts, I started with the 2 ends just to make sure it was lined up correctly, then just torque them in order. I retightened after running it a couple of good heat cycles then retightened them again. Then just check them when doing maintance items like oil changes, plugs , wires etc.

No question on the Abbott gaskets. They are around $35, too. Not a bad investment. Get the stage 8 locking header bolts and you shouldn't have a problem with leaks. Just follow the directions on the Pacesetter headers for installation.

Those are worthless and huge waste of money. I had those and they didnt even lock correctly

I got some regular run-of-the-mill bolts from O'Reilly's for about $10 (I cant remember the exact size) and they havent come loose yet.
