  • Question for magnaflow owners...

After extensive searching regarding the magnaflow system for a 98+ 3.8 (model number 15693) i'm still a bit confused. Some people have said that it has to be welded since it is not slip fit, however after reading the install instructions... it says its all clampable... and it comes with clamps. Also, the 98+ s pipes are welded to the cat. The picture on their website shows a catback with the s pipe included.. does it come with the s pipe and we just don't use it or is that just a generic picture? Lastly, any suggestions/observations when you installed it?

    Thanks.

P.S. I don't care if you think the magnaflow sounds bad or looks ugly or whatever.

i just got my camaro like 2 months ago. i ordered magnaflow shortly after i bought my camaro. magnaflwo is all camp on and i dont have mine welded. i had to take it to a shop becaus ei couldnt tighten them all the way but if u can tighten them up enough it wont leak(mine doesnt now). also the s-pipe comes with the kit but if you want it install it was to be welded on the side where it meets the cat. youll love it (i do). my last car had full exhaust and no cat and it didnt sound as good as my camaro does with just catback.

All my questions answered in 1 post. Sweet.

Are both hangers already there even if i have a single out pipe right now?

Hangers are there, you'll need to put 2 more in for the tailpipes, they come with the kit.... you'll have one right before the muffler and one right afer.. You'll need to pick up an extra rubber insulator because in the back 4 in all are needed for the 4 sets of hangers.. 2 for the muffler and 1 for each tailpipe...

Ok, so no welding is needed it seems. How loud is the noise inside the car when cruising on the highway? And does anyone have any pictures of it installed? I'd like to see exactly how big 3.5 inch tips look on the car and how far it sticks out.

That's some pictures of my car with the 3.5" slash tips from the Magnaflow catback system. Should give you a little bit of an idea. Cruising down the highway isn't too bad. There's a sweet spot in my exhaust from about 2500-3000 RPM where it's kinda loud, but other than that, just expect a little hum going down the road. It will be loud though, just a warning. =)

Ok. I shouldn't have clearance problems with the RS appearance package right? Y3F i think?

no problems with RS body kit. I have an RS and it fits fine. www.gvperformance.com sells the catback if you are looking for one ;)

ordered mine from lmperformance.com. everything u need to get it going is in the package. only problem i had was one of the hangers were messed up so i had to run to the auto parts store to buy another one.....like 3$ no big deal. i love how it sounds. idel reving it gets raspy but when ur driving down the road and hauling *** it sounds awesome. gets louder and louder. as for the noise inside the car......its not to bad but i always have the radio on. Did you have 2 tailpipes? Because the magnflow kit only includes 2 rubber insulators for your hangers. And my car had 1 on it originally. You need a total of 4 rubber insulators.. 2 of them go on the driver side tail pipe (one holds up the muffler and one holds up the end of the pipe) 1 on the over axle pipe and the last goes on the passenger side tailpipe.

Not very loud at all. My Magnaflow only sounds beefy when I'm getting on it. Once I get to cruising speed, I can hardly hear it.

I run the magnaflow with pacesetters and deleted cat. Definitely loud at WOT but as bonemaro said when you get to cruising its not so loud...although with my setup i would not go as far as to say you can hardly hear it. And i connected my magnaflow with clamps, worked good.

Yeah, I would guess it would be louder with the headers and no cat.

Btw, my system is welded. I reckon the clamps would work as well, but I was in the mood for sparks.

i think it has a great tone, and is only loud at wide open throttle. I have magnaflow high flow cat, and magnaflow cat back 2.5" system and i couldn't be happier with it. If your system comes with an s-pipe do yourself a favor and just buy a high flow cat to finish the system.

That's what I did. Mine's been on for quite a while now and still haven't taken pics or sound clip, so I'll get on that when I get my iPhone. :naughty:

Mine seems pretty loud, and even with a heavy hitting sound system I can still hear it on the highway. Kinda ricey with a bit of rasp in the top end, but nice and deep down low and idling. I had a shop do the entire install on mine for $100, all welded, but not too happy with the job they did. It hangs too low and rubs the axle, and they didn't install the 2 hangers by the tips. Taking it upon myself to fix that.

Thinking I got mine for about $380 and it came with a free Cat...
